Degenerative Arthritis
Due to the onset of degenerative arthritis, many people suffer from chronic knee pain. Many times this sort of pain can be well managed with appropriate exercises. A combination of stretching, resisted exercises (weight lifting) and low impact aerobic exercises performed 3 to 5 times a week can do wonders at eliminating pain and allowing one to maintain an active lifestyle.
After a period of aerobic exercise, such as walking for 3 to 5 minutes, it is important to stretch your muscles for 30 seconds at a time. When that is complete, lifting weights focusing on the muscles around the knee will help eliminate pain. These exercises include leg presses, leg extensions, leg curls and calf raises. You should choose a weight that can be lifted comfortably for 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 20 repetitions. A weight program should be performed 2 to 4 times per week and aerobic exercise should be done at least 3 to 5 times per week. The order in which you do weights or aerobics does not matter, whichever is more comfortable for you. If you are unsure how to perform these exercises, or your pain persists, consult your physician
